Travel Tips
Travelling to and from Provence is relatively quick and easy with good road quality , low cost flights and great TGV and Eurostar connections:
Eurostar and TGV
Rail travel is becoming a popular travel option with frequent departures from central London and Paris to Provence. The Eurostar departs from St Pancras station, London and is an 8 hour journey to the TGV station in Aix-en-Provence with an easy cross platform change in Lille. If you are arriving from Paris the TGV leaves the Gare du Lyon in central Paris and arrives at Aix-en-Provence TGV station 3 hours later.
Flights
Marseille International Airport at Marignane now hosts a number of low cost travel companies : Easyjet and Ryanair fly regular services into Marseille from many UK and European destinations as well as all year round flights operated by British Airways and Air France. There are numerous car hire agencies situated at the airport.
Boat
If you are catching a ferry and then driving your own car to Provence please be aware that the roads and motorways are very busy on Saturdays during July and August especially in Provence. There can sometimes be lengthy queues at motorway tolls.
The driving journey time from Channel ports to Provence is 10 - 12 hours. The quality of motorways in France is excellent.
