Avignon and Le Pont du Gard - Full Day
The Pont du Gard is one of France's most famous and well preserved architectural works from Roman times. Contruction of a 50 km long aqueduct started in 50 AD and took 15 years to complete. The bridge of the aqueduct (Le Pont du Gard) took 5 years to complete and is an impressive sight. On this tour we will have the opportunity to walk on the bridge and visit the nearby information centre.
In the afternoon we will visit the town of Avignon. The stunning Palais des Papes was home to no fewer than 7 Popes from the 13th century. While visiting the Palais you will have the opportunity to discover the history of the Palace, and some of the Popes, through a wonderful audio-guide. We will also visit the famous Pont Saint Bénezet, constructed in the 17th century, it is the subject of the famous childrens song 'Sur le Pont d'Avignon'.
