Aix-en-Provence 2-3 hour Walking Tour
Our walking tour of Aix-en-Provence, the birth place of the artist Paul Cézanne, takes you on a fascinating jouney through time. Known as the town of water and art, Aix was founded in 123 BC on a natural spring water site. Numerous fountains can be seen all over the town - the four most famous are found on the main street the Cours Mirabeau. Our tour takes us to the elegant residential area of the Quartier Mazarin where sumptuous private houses were built in the mid 1600's. In the old town you will discover a warren of pretty winding streets with everyday markets, shops, fountains and squares.

We took a 2 1/2 hour walking tour of Aix-en-Provence with Janicke a few days ago and it was the absolute highlight of our stay in Aix. Janicke was the perfect combination of friendly, articulate and knowledgeable. We learned so much about the history of Aix in such a short period of time. Janicke showed us a variety of sites and was extremely patient with all of our questions. The time just flew by. Even though the tour is a little pricey, it's private and it's worth every Euro. I only wish we could have taken other tours with Janicke while we were in Aix (to Les Baux, Avignon, lavender country, etc.) but of course she was booked. Janicke could be a history professor she's so well versed on the area. Can't recommend this tour enough and Janicke in particular.
